Pictures of Herpes Up Close
When looking for herpes pictures on google or any other search engine, you’re bound to come across some incredibly graphic, disgusting, and down right scary pictures of herpes. While these pictures are sometimes real depictions of someone’s herpes infection, they are often the very worst case scenarios and are plastered all over the internet as a way to scare people into abstinence.
Those scare tactics serve absolutely no purpose when you are already sexually active, and you think you might have something. We get that you would like to compare your physical symptoms to more realistic photos of herpes – photos of people who have herpes and who are not immunocompromised (a lot of the gruesome photos you come across are from people who have additional medical conditions, and, as a result, have much worse herpes symptoms).
Herpes.Education scoured the web and found the most realistic resources for herpes pictures. These images of herpes come from dermatologist’s websites or other similarly vetted reference sites. They include a variety of herpes symptoms, and they also incorporate different skin types, symptom locations, and stages of herpes.
Don’t Use Herpes Pictures to Diagnose Yourself
While we STRONGLY encourage getting tested and discourage diagnosing or treating oneself via pictures alone (more on this in our herpes pictures guide), we realize the desire to compare one’s symptoms with those of others in hopes of narrowing the possibilities.
Remember, the most common herpes symptom is NO symptom at all; so, if you find your symptoms do not match any of the herpes images below, this does NOT mean you are herpes negative, and you should still get tested and see a medical professional as soon as possible to avoid complications of untreated infections.
Furthermore, if you’ve engaged in ANY sexual activity, you are at risk of contracting or transmitting a herpes, so please make sure to get tested and see a medical professional too.
